Understanding Chakras - Throat Chakra

Your chakras are seven rotating points of energy on your body. The energy field given off by these seven points collectively makes up your aura.

Your throat chakra is located in your neck or throat and you can stimulate it manually by rubbing your throat or the back of your neck.

You can also sing or make noises. Sometimes making a random sound is a very effective tool for clearing your throat chakra.

The color association for the throat chakra is blue and you'll see various shades of blue, light blue, and turquoise, and this is the symbol.

The planetary association is Mercury and the element is ether. Mercury also governs communication. Other planetary associations are Venus, Uranus, Mars, and the signs of Taurus, Gemini, and Aquarius.

Your throat chakra governs all issues of communication and expression. So self-expression, self-discipline, speaking your truth, writing, your communication voice, singing, art - any and every kind of expression you can think of.

The goals therefore are clear expression or clear communication as well as a complete unfolding of your creative ability and your creative talents.

The spiritual challenge associated to this chakra is to recognize that the strength of your will is not measured by how well you exert control over others, but rather how well you control yourself.

Conscious self-control and discipline means living according to the truth that every thought you have is either an act of grace or potentially a weapon. Right thought leads to right speech, leads to right action.

The life cycle governed by your throat chakra begins on your 28th birthday and in this stage of your life you will again be exploring the foundation of your voice, finding your voice.

Once you found it, you're going to get more creative and you're going to begin to explore and express your voice and what it can and can't do for you.

By the third year of the cycle, you're going to look at the personal power of voice and you're going to come to understand that it is about gathering people to you.

You will express this power in your career and the ability to do this is often going to determine how successful you are going forward.

By the time we get to year 31 to 32, we're in the heart of voice and we really begin to understand that voice and communication are about relationships. Even as an artist, nobody to look at something means that it doesn't really exist.

At age 32, you go into expressing your voice loudly against or with others. By age 33 you're looking at the future vision of your voice - How will you use it? How does your life fit into the big picture?

And by the time we come back to the soul and essence year of voice, you have built the framework for your understanding of communication and relationships.

Imbalances of the throat chakra will manifest as too much talking, the inability to listen, gossiping, interruptions, overextending yourself, stuttering.

You may also have a fear of speaking, a small weak voice, difficulty putting your feelings into words, and shyness.

Physical dysfunctions include issues with the throat, the mouth; mouth ulcers, gum issues, teeth issues, scoliosis, laryngitis, swollen glands, thyroid problems, headaches, pain in the neck and the shoulders, and ear infections.

Conversely, in those who are expressing a balanced throat chakra, you will find that they are very creative. They use their voices very very well. At the same time, they are good listeners.

They have resonant voices. They have a good sense of timing and rhythm. They express clear communication and they live their life very creatively.

They're the kind of people who always have a new idea, a fresh idea, a different way to approach it. They usually make great diplomats and mediators as well.

Sounds and chants associated to the throat chakra include HAM, EH, and HEH-HEH is the laughter yoga sound.

Crystals you'll find useful when working with your throat chakra include Lapis Lazuli, Aquamarine, Turquoise, Sapphire, Blue Lace Agate, and Blue Tourmaline.
